MEET THE TEAM: Erica Kearnes - Post Image

We recently welcomed Erica Kearnes to the Council team as the new Librarian / Regional Manager North Western Library. Erica is most excited about joining the Warren community, appreciating its peace and quiet and especially how welcoming it is to newcomers. She believes the library is more than just a place for books; it's a hub for fun and educational activities and events for all community members.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role at Warren Shire Council?
Being a part of a new community. Not just Warren but the North-Western Library team.

What is your favourite part of working in local government?
Being able to work with all members of the community. The library is more than just a repository for books, it's a place to host activities and events for all members of the community that are fun and educational.

What types of tasks are typically involved in your field of work?
Being a librarian allows a variety of tasks these include helping people with their to-be-read list, budget control, program events, ordering stock and managing grants. It's nothing like what my friends think I actually do all day.

What is the greatest achievement in your career?
Managing a small regional library during the pandemic, meeting the challenges of the restrictions combined with completing my Masters degree at the same time (to my friends that is a 'masters of reading books while curled up in the corner of the library').

What’s your idea of a perfect day?
Sunny and mild day, picnic with a great view whether with those I love or enjoying the peace on my own.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Treat people the way you would like to be treated.

How would your friends describe you?
Trustworthy, helpful, a great listener, creative, and enjoys a good laugh.

What song has been stuck in your head lately?
Great Southern Land - Icehouse.

What do you enjoy most about living in rural communities like Warren Shire?
The peace and quiet but mostly the way that the community is accepting of new people.
