Council is actively assisting with cleanup efforts to help the Nevertire community recover from the powerful storm that swept through on February 9 and 10, causing significant damage to homes, infrastructure and public facilities.

The storm left 10,000 homes without power, damaged the local water reservoir, and severely impacted properties, with Colorbond fences across the village blown down. One machinery shed was completely destroyed, and nine residential buildings sustained varying degrees of damage.

Council quickly responded by deploying trucks to remove debris, fallen trees, and scrap materials. A backup generator was installed to maintain water services when power was lost for 48 hours. “We appreciate the impact this storm has had on our residents, and we’re doing all we can to assist with the cleanup,” said Warren Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Greg Whiteley.

While many affected homeowners are insured, some face the challenge of recovering without coverage. Essential Energy worked swiftly to restore power, and Council continues to support residents as they rebuild.

Councillor Whiteley noted that this is not the first time Nevertire has been hit by extreme weather, with past storms causing significant damage to community landmarks. “Nevertire has seen its fair share of storms - I can remember two, including the 2020 one that took the roof off the hotel and hall, plus the famous 1896 tornado - and now this. Thankfully, the new roofs on the hotel and hall withstood this event, but the village feels like it's in Cyclone Alley lately,” he said. “I thank the residents, however, for their resilience and cooperation during this difficult time.”

Council urges residents to reach out for assistance and stay informed through upcoming Council updates.
